I love San Diego. In fact, I love it so much that the one time I tried to leave, I came right back and never left again. San Diego is a part of me, just like it is for so many of you.
I have lived all over San Diego, and five years ago, my husband and I wanted to make District 7 the place where we can raise our three kids. Why? The people, the open spaces, the schools, the fresh clean air – these are all things we love about our community. We all know that San Diego is close to perfect, but nowhere is perfect. There are always things we can improve upon.
A thriving community requires constant work, persistence, attention, care, and determination - all qualities I embody along with eternal optimism and a can-do attitude. Through my 15-year long career as an elementary school teacher, community advocacy as a leader for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and the founding of our country’s biggest local gun violence prevention coalition (San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention) I have honed these skills to lead and build deep relationships within the San Diego community. As a mom of three kids (13, 7, and 5), I have the patience of a saint and the multitasking skills of a ninja.
What needs to be done in District 7? As a member of the community, some of the challenges I see facing us include fire danger in our canyons, an epidemic homelessness crisis, crumbling roads and infrastructure, the need to protect and preserve our beautiful resource of the San Diego River, affordable housing for all, and the need for strong leadership to help SDSU West become the jewel of Mission Valley. I’m ready to do the work it takes to continue to make District 7 a place we can all be even more proud of!
When we come together on shared values and a modern vision for our incredible district, anything is possible and that is something worth fighting for. Safe communities, healthy earth and families, modernized infrastructure and transit - the future of District 7.
Together WE can do anything. Won’t you join me?
